Something always stands in the way of the fantasy life we all dream of.

This is the story of Lily and Chris. Their lives are each other. They would die to have each other. This is the kind of love that comes around once in a million years. The kind of love that pulls through the darkness and shines where it is impossible to be seen. The kind that has girls across the country sigh in desire.

When they have to chose between the four things they value most in life, which do they chose?

Personality: Don't argue with Lily. She never gives up, and never loses. She is as stubborn as heck, and never bends. She does know how to compromise though. Sass and spunk are strong traits she possess in large amounts, and is often very sarcastic.
Compassion rages through her and is equally powerful as stubborness. She is empathetic to everyone, and understands people's feelings easily. She is a great listener, and can sit with you for hours while you talk.
She is not as graceful as she appears though. She is clumsy at times, and hates gym. She's perfectly okay with being a klutz though.
Lily also hates being the center-of-attention. She would rather work with someone or behind someone than have all eyes on her.
Description (no pics): Beach-blonde hair bounces in a silky sheet halfway between her shoulders and elbows. Crystal-clear blue eyes sparkle from beneath long, thick lashes, which give her the picture of perfect innocence. She is tall, curvy, devoloped, skinny, and elegant. Her lips are full and a sweet pink, which is a shade darker than her always-rosy cheeks. Her skin is fine and pale, never tanning no matter how much sun she basks in, which she does often, not to tan (pssh, she knows she can't tan, and doesn't want to tan), but because she loves the sun.

So here's what's happening....
Lily and her true love (thye are sure they are going to be together forever) are the perfect couple. Lily's love is the best boyfriend, from both father and girlfriend's view points. He is responsible and follows all the rules, and is incredibly safe with her. He's the perfect guy. Daddy approves of him, until one night he discovers she is pregnant (but she really isn't), and throws a fit. The two families have been best friends forever, but when David Luongo thinks his first daughter is pregnant, nothing else matters. Screaming and yelling, he scars the relationship with the families. He forbids Lily to ever, ever see her love again, and also forbids the kids in his family from seeing the kids in the other family. Even his wife is not allowed to see the mother of the other family, even though they are best friends. Lily and her love must creep around the edges, with the constant threat that if they are caught, they will rip their own families apart.
After a long while, the mothers forgive each other, since they know the fight was over nothing. They must also talk in secret, because the two fathers, who were best friends since sophomores in college, still hate each other. They younger kids in the family are also still not supposed to talk. But David isn't as strict with them as he is with Lily. She is absolutely forbidden from ever seeing her love again, no matter what.
But then one night, everything changes. The accusation from her father so long ago is no longer just an accusation. It is the truth.

It was here that Chris felt himself sway. Here that Chris decided to break his own rules. Seeing her like this, wanting, needing her, was all too much. He ran his hands over her soft skin, then back up her legs, inching slowly up her thighs. Gently nudging them apart he let his fingers go farther and farther north. His breathing further quickened and his mind became more and more unreasonable. Any grasp his brain had on his actions was relinquished as Chris gently pushed a finger into her, looking up at her pallid moonlit face to gouge a reaction.

A sensation so amazing, so incredible rushed through Lily's blood in a tornado of pleasure and love. Her eyes closed as his fingers entered her body, and her mouth opened as her head gently lolled back. A low moan of pleasure bubbled in the back of her throat. Her breath was quick and uneven. Having Chris's strong, but fair, fingers in her body made her forget everything else she had ever known except for 2 facts. 1. She loved him. 2. She wanted to keep going farther, explore his body, and then become one.

Chris grinned stupidly at her reaction, delving his fingers farther into the warmth that enveloped them. It was such a powerful feeling, knowing he was bringing pleasure to the one he loved. She was almost writhing in joy, and he was the one causing it. That thought alone was enough to make him want to come right then, but he knew better. Instead he focused on being gentle but pleasing at the same time, and making her smile.

As Chris'S speed and depth into her body increased, her joy did as well. For a brief split second she wondered if she would feel this way if it was anyone besides Chris. It didn't even take her a breath to decide it wouldn't.
"I love you," she breathed in his ear in an uneven pant. (when should she start him?)

As Chris was urged on by the estatic face Lily sported, the doubts he harbored in the back of his mind came even further wedged back there, their threat to stopping this activity all together slowly diminishing. "I love you too," He moaned back, and kissed his way across her temple, her cheek, her jawbone back to her lips. Silencing anymore words with his lips, he let his fingers slip out, if only to bring her as close as possible to his body.

Lily's breath slid out of her mouth in a rattled hiss, and her heart beat like mad against her chest. Her lips slid over his cheek bone and down to the hollow of his throat and back up again. "Hey," She whispered, a new idea forming in her head. "Can I like...?" She left the thought at that, knowing he understood.

Chris's breath came fast, too fast and shallow to actually serve any use. Instead, Chris was running on pure adrenaline and passion. When lily's words sliced through the silence and heavy breathing, Chris couldn't help but bob his head in wanting for her. "Please do," He managed, his voice strained from holding back moans. She would actually do this, for him? Actually hold and caress him, actually live out his most prominent goal, his dream? Yes she would, he decided as he pressed his lips to her throat, flicking his tongue over the soft skin. Because she was lily, and she loved him.

"Anything for you," She whispered, her lips tracing his cheek. All insecurity slipped out of her body, being replaced by confidence. She Knew she loved Chris. She knew he loved her. She knew he wanted her to do this. And she would do anything for him.
With just the delicate tips of her fingers, she slid down his cheeks, on to his neck, over his chest, onto his stomach and finally arrived at her destination. (ok I have no idea how to even do this lol. Advice please?)

The sudden feel of her nimble fingers around him sent a wave of something much more potent than pleasure through his body. It was so great he bit lightly on the skin of her neck to keep from screaming out. And it was that much better because it was Lily, best friend Lily, girlfriend Lily, soulmate Lily, doing this, and not some random hookup. He shuddered that that thought, or was it from the movement of her hands? He couldn't be sure.

(alright, so just imagine that she is doing it the whole time while I write her thoughts, k? So have him react please, lolol)

As Lily's fingers delicately caressed Chris, her lips worked rapidly against any area of skin she could reach. His excited reaction beneath her made her want to give him more. More happiness, more pleasure, more of her.
How had her dad's friend's son become her best friend? How did her best friend become her brother? How did her brother become her lover? How did her soul mate become the light of her life? The world worked in crazy ways. And occassionally, sometimes it even worked in wonderful ways.

This was all Chris could take. The sensations she brought him were so good. Yet there could be only one thing better, he decided. He pushed his mouth onto hers, and somehow made it so she was pinned under him on the seat. He looked down affectionately at her, the exertion and sweat made her glow like his own personel angel.

They were rolling. Rolling down a hill spotted with little yellow dandelions.
"I win!" Lily squealed, pressing down on Chris's shoulders so that they touched the grass. Grass stains tainted her jean shorts and t-shirt, but as Chris looked up at her, he couldn't have cared. She was the most beautiful of all the girls in his class either way.
Using all his strength, Chris pushed up and rolled her over so their position was reversed. He grinned down at her, a strand of overgrown caramel hair fell over his forehead, sticking a bit from his sweat. It was an arrogant grin that parted as he said "You were saying?"
Lily's face crumpled into defeat. The feeling of victory had faded fast. She bit her lower lip, refusing to say uncle. Their bodies were pressed together, so close his nose was almost brushing hers.
"Say it," Chris demanded, pressing harder on her shoulder blades. He was still grinning. Lily shook her head stubbornly. "Say it!" Chris ordered again, this time shaking her a bit, not enough to hurt her. That was unthinkable. This was when Lily's eyes filled with tears as she struggled against his grip. Chris's arms gave out and he was once again on the bottom, staring up at the girl that never ceased to amaze him.

Chris was once again gazing at Lily in amazingment as he reared over her. They were in perfect position. He didn't even have to ask if this was okay, the yes was pursed at her plump lips. He smiled and kissed her tenderly again before moving foward. It was then that Lily's ringtone blared throughout the Jeep.

Lily, realizing what was finally happening, couldn't believe it. The thing she had desired the most for her whole life, or so it seemed, was about to happen now. Now. In ten seconds, she and Chris would be one. One person, one being, one love. This was it. This was her chance to show him how much she loved him, how much she wanted to make him happy, how much she wanted him.
A chirpy ringing rang out through the car. It was very feminine, with tinkling bells, and high trills. An angel choir? Celebrating their joining? That was it. Angels were singing. Just like that day so like ago.

Lily blushed as Chris wrapped his hand securely around hers and walked her to the door. As a young, naive 7th grader, a boy had never touched her so gently, so affectionately.
The night was slowly starting to push evening back. Crickets chirped along to the melody of humming cicadas. A slight drizzle plinked to the pavement.
With their hands joined, they walked up to Lily's door, but didn't touch the knob. "Thanks, Chris. I had a lot of fun tonight." Lily smiled, displaying a shining grin of pink and white braces.
"No, thank you, Lily." Chris said quietly, seeming a little distracted. His gaze shifted to the ground for a moment, and when he looked back up, he seemed confident.
Insecurity quickly set in as Lily tried to analyze his mood, but she didn't have long to think. Chris bent his neck down towards her, and quickly kissed her lips. He pulled back for a brief moment, looking into her eyes to make sure she was ok with it. This time, Lily bent in first, and they kissed for a brief, but perfect, handful of seconds. Chris grinned, his chocolate hair plastered to his forehead from the humidity and walking in the rain, before squeezing her hand and then walking down the driveway as the front door opened to Lily's father. Suddenly, a quiet eruption of glorious high voices peeled through the stillness, singing a beautiful tune, and a bright light illuminated Chris as he walked down the way.
Angel choirs and bright lights. That was what happened on your first kiss, only if you were special. If the person you shared the kiss with was special.
"Bye," Lily whispered, her heart beating in her chest. A giddy grin rose onto her face as Chris disappeared into the dimness, and she turned to face her dad.
"What're you so thrilled about?" He asked.
"Oh, nothing," She giggled. She was flying. Higher still, to the clouds and soaring in the stars. Her heart danced about in her chest and her blood raced through her veins.
In that moment, she realized, she was in love. (lol, she later knows that the "angel choirs" was her mom's classical music that was playing when her dad opened the door, and the "bright lights" were the outside light her dad flipped on. but it just happened to be coincidental lol)

No, that couldn't be an angel choir. It was something else. It was too annoying to be an angel choir. It sounded like, like, a ringtone? A... cell ringtone.

Chris's eyes suddenly opened. Not opened in the way you'd open them after sleep, or even just after blinking. Opening as in your eyes opening wider after being yelled at for day dreaming about your date that night. Or your crush's perfect smile. Or what your wedding would be like. Being shaken from a dream that mixed with reality was what opened your eyes truly. Even waking from sleep your head is hazy, your eyes half closed. But there is no halfway to daydreaming. Your either here, or there. Once your back, its hard to return. Now you see what you should have been seeing, instead of the misty pictures you had been looking at all along, your mind never knowing that they weren't quite right.
Chris's daydream ended abruptly. Here he was, about to prove his love to Lily in the most intimate and powerful of ways when a tinny ringtone playing the sounds of bells interupted it. It was now he realized that what he had been doing wasn't right. He pushed himself off of her, towards the orgin of the sound. Groping around on the floor of the Jeep, his hand clenched around the rounded, cool plastic of her phone. The screen was blinking, almost blinding in the darkness. He held it out to her gingerly, as if he were handing her a poisonous apple. And to her it probably would be just as repulsive. Ending their passionate embrace was almost as horrible as sleeping for a 100 years, Chris thought, all at the hands of one small object.

Lily shook her head frantically at the phone being offered to her, as if he was handing her a swarm of live hornets. This stupid phone was not going to end her fairytale. She hadn't proved her love to him. She needed to. She needed to let him know she loved him with her heart, soul, mind and body. Every being of her loved and wanted him.
And a freaking cell phone just ruined her chances of showing him that.
"Chris, just put the phone down. Put it down." Lily coaxed firmly. She cringed away from it. Quickly, she laid her fingers on his cheeks and tried to pull his head towards her lips, hoping to distract him into a kiss.
(lol, lily's thoughts are so like freespirited and chris's are so serious!)

Chris wasn't about to just push her away, not now. But their lips barely brushed when the phone, still in Chris's hand, began to vibrate and ring again. "Damit," He muttered, pulling away and looking at the too-bright caller ID. "It's you dad,"
And that realization crashed over him like an icy wave. This was Lily. The seventeen year old. Sure their love was ageless, it would continue forever, no matter how old they got. But they were still young. He watched her eyes narrow at the phone, and Chris let out his breath in a drawn out sigh. Tapping the YES button, he held it up to her ear, avoiding her furious blue eyes boring into his skull. He knew he would pay for this after she got off the phone.

Lily's face burned red, and for once, it was not from embarassment. It was from anger. Stubbornly, she refused to speak into the phone for a moment and turned her head away. But after about five seconds, when she heard her dad's worried and angry voice ring out, "Hello? Lilyanna!?" from the phone, she sighed in defeat. She shot Chris a death you-will-never-hear-the-end-of-this glare, and huffed into the phone. "Dad." She greeted, her teeth clenched and her fingers shaking as they gripped the phone way too tightly.

Chris looked away, embarassed for his change of heart. He groped around the seats, finding his clothing piece by piece, and the whole time refusing to look her in the eye. He was never going to live this down, he was positive. Only a glance at her tomato red face and fiery eyes made him quiver. He hated making her upset, but he had to control himself. Maybe she would be so mad she'd keep away from him for the next couple hours. But Chris wasn't sure if he himself could stand it.

Out of the corner of her eye, Lily saw Chris slowly changing back into his clothes. She sighed, her stiff shoulders falling limp, as her heart sank. It was really over. She swallowed back the lump in her throat.
"Why didn't you call? I trusted him!" David exploded into the phone.
Lily cringed away from the loud volume of his tone, and answered curtly, "We forgot."
The whole time, she avoided looking at Chris. Her full, aching heart drummed out a rageful beat, ripping her in three pieces. Anger, the smallest; sadness; and true love, the largest.

Chris slumped down in the seat before silently holding out his hand for the phone. David's furious voice was easily heard throughout the Jeep, and Lily's disgusted answers made it a lethal pair. Chris was positive he would handle this better; he was always the one to think things through. He lowered his eyes apologetically before raising them slightly to meet her shining eyes. "Give me one minute," He whispered, tucking a damp curl behind her ear with the hand that wasn't reaching for the cell phone. His heart felt heavy with treachery, but he had to do what had to be done.

The whistle reverberated through the middle school gym as the lanky and obviously pubescant boys followed noisily into the locker room. Within moments, the room was filled with wriggling, half-naked, sweaty boys changing back into their Abercrombie t-shirts or American Eagle polos. Chris was thinking about his math test as somehow managed to pull his head through the fully buttoned Yankees jersey he was sporting that day. But it was now that something interupted his throughts. He heard (name)'s voice from across the lockerroom.
"Yeah, she said she'd think about!"
"Nah, Lily's too much of a prude," The name stuck out from the buzz of voices like a dalmation among tigers. Still buttoning his jeans, Chris stuck his head around the row of lockers, locating Lily's current boyfriend. Heat rose to the back of Chris's neck as he watched the jerk wave his phone in everyone's face.
"Nope, I got it in writing," The small black writing flashed by Chris's face before he could read it, but already Chris felt the almost paternal protection for his best friend kick in.
"Got what?" He asked, tucking in his shirt.
"Lily's going to give me a BJ," He proclaimed loudly, getting a few cheers and a couple gasps from nearby students.
Chris narrowed his eyes, his body tensing with the need to kick this kid right in the groin. "You guys have been going out a week," He accused, spilling the first thing that came to mind.
"So?" (Name) finally figured out what Chris had in mind, and he stepped back involuntarily. "It's not illegal,"
The blood boiled under Chris's skin, flames engulfing everything until Chris only saw red. He couldn't do this to Lily. She was too young, not ready. This wasn't the right person. That's you A small voice reminded him. He took a deep breath, appearing finally collected to everyone else aroudn him. "Your right, it isn't, but this is," And then threw his first punch, hitting him square in the nose. Sometimes you do what has to be done.

Lily rolled her eyes and sharply snapped her wrist so the phone was in his hand. She huffed loudly, puffing her bangs into the air. Blood boiled under her skin and her heart pounded against her chest until it hurt. She was angry, yes. She was actually furious. But the reason her heart pained so much was because they had come so close. So close to being one person from two. So close to pledging their love in a way so indescribable, it wasn't even able to be put into words. And then at the ring of a cell phone, it was ripped out from underneath her. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to suffocate the pain. She rocked slowly back and forth, as tears steadily slid down her flushed cheeks. Ducking her head into her elbow, she tried to hide her sorrow from Chris. She knew it wouldn't work for long. Hiding something from each other had never worked for either of them.

Lily speed-walked down the hallway, keeping her head low. Stupid, stupid, stupid. How could she be so naive? Tears rattled down her face, chilling her hot skin. A warm blush bubbled on her cheeks. Her fingers wrapped so tightly around her books that they turned white, and then purple. She let her long sheet of hair swing over her face like a curtain, to hide her humiliation. A quick peek through her lashes showed her that the girl's room was only a few strides away. She could make it.
Suddenly, she slammed into something tall and hard. Disoriented and suprised, she faltered back a few steps, losing her balance. Most girls would be able to regain their sense of equilibrium in just a few short moments, but not Lily. Clumsy as she was, she started to plummet to the ground.
Great, she thought. Just great. Now she was crying, and she was about to fall flat on her face.
She waited for the sting of the ground to engulf her hands. She waited. And waited. But all she felt was... Nothing. Except for a firm, but gentle grip, on her upper arms keeping her balance. Someone had caught her before she fell. The same person she had just smacked into moments before.
She peeked through her curtain of hair and an angel met her eyes. Tall, with a slightly rumpled mess of warm chocolate brown hair, with eyes to match.
Chris. Those were Chris's eyes. Chris couldn't see her like this.
"Thank you." She mumbled curtly, avoiding his concerned gaze. "Now please let me go."
He shook his head. "Lily, what's wrong?" He asked, his eyes swimming with fear of the worst possibilities.
"Nothing is wrong! Why does something have to be wrong?" She cried out, throwing her hands up in the air, forgetting she had books in her hands. They crashed to the ground, but she barely noticed.
"It doesn't have to be wrong. But maybe something is wrong," He whispered gently, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.
His gentle touch was all it took for her tough facade to break. "He dumped me." The tears fell freely now onto Chris's shoulder, as she buried her face into his shirt. "In front of everyone. And he made fun of me. They were all laughing. Every single one of them."
"It's okay, Lils, it's okay." He murmured over and over again, as his arms wrapped around her into an embrace. He held her in the hallway, rocking gently back and forth. "I'll make it okay. I promise."
It was a promise he kept for 6 and a half years. With him, everything was always okay.

Chris smiled, trying to put apology, sincerity and consolance in one single expression. Then he held the phone to his ear gingerly. "Mr. Luongo, I'm so sorry for the stress we've caused you," His voice was so sure, so steady that he was sure he would find the way out of this. Then, the sound of sobs infiltrated his half-vain thoughts, bringing Chris back to the Jeep and lilys sorrow with it.
"Chris, I trusted you with Lilyana, and if she isn't home in a half hour..." He let his voice trail off threateningly, but even Chris shuddered at the thought of justice at Lily's father's hands.
"I'm sorry sir, but the spot I picked is an hour away. You see, we're on the shore of FairWillow River, and we were just started our picnik when you called " Chris lied smoothly, even when his body was being torn and tortured by Lily's tears.
"Yes but-"
"Mr. Luongo I assure you, I will bring Lily home in perfect condition as soon as she has eaten," He sneaked a look at the heaving Lily, trying so futily to hide her pain. What Chris would do to have her back in perfection, to piece back her broken heart, to know she still loved her. Because doubting that was like having your heart ripped from your body, so painful that you can't bear to imagine it.

A tear of defeat crawled down her face as she slid back into her clothes. Chris's steady lie only made the realization of rejection from her true love deepen. Her chest heaved silently with the agony and anger dancing beneath her skin. Nothing had hurt her this much in years, because Chris had always kept the pain away.

"She better be home by curfew," Lily's father muttered before hanging up the phone. It was on the border of stupid to argue with Chris when it came to Lily's well being. It was a race to who cared for her more: her own flesh, or her other half. And each was firmly convinced it was he.
But somehow Chris pushed all of this out of his mind, reaching in the darkness to find Lily. It was always lonely if Lily wasn't in his arms, they felt empty. Then, he felt his own skin brush hers, which was warm with the heat of fury, and he curls them around her in an almost awkward embrace. "Lily," He murmured into her ear, squeezing her tighter so that any bid she made to escape would be impossible. "What are we going to do with you?" His voice was almost teasing and affectionate, but anyone could hear the sorrow and apologetic taint in it.

Lily lay still against his hands, not conforming her body to fit his embrace as was her usual custom. Normally, his teasing, but sympathetic, words would lift her burdens off her shoulder like a balloon floating into the heavens. This was no "normal" situation however. His comforting words reflected off her skin as if she was armor.

"Lily," Chris repeated softly, brushing his lips along her neck, hoping to get a sound out of her, or at least a glance in his direction. But the ever increasing pressure in his chest was known. The kind that was there when bad news arrived, when you realize something was not meant to be, when sadness came. This was not supposed to be the feeling when he was with Lily.
