PROJECT POETRY
my LA Honors class is doing a "reality show" where our poems get voted on by the other LA Honors class until there is one winner. So for each round, I figured I'd post my poems.
Round 1: Write a Short Poem, 50 words or less. Conflicted
It’s either one way, or the other.
Have Some Fun or Study Hard?
different sources give contrasting advice.
Just Be Yourself or Why Can’t You be like Everybody Else?
back and forth; there are choices to make.
Just Relax or Get Involved?
What should I do? I’m simply Conflicted
Did not get eliminated!! Judges had nothing but praise for above poem ! Woot !
Round 2: Metaphor Poem:
Guilt
Guilt is a hulking wolf, who blends in with the brush. A menacing figure he may be, but every move is hushed.
His golden gaze on your back, is a silent weight on your soul. And for you to repent your sins, is this monster’s only goal.
This creature follows you everywhere to nightmares, thoughts and dreams, And when you finally right your wrong His amber eyes will gleam.
Back into the foliage he disappears, To be hidden by the ferns, Once your actions again turn dire, the beast will then return
Hey guys ! I won this roundddd ! Yayy my poem goes up on the language arts board, i get immunity for round 3, and i get entered into a contest for 100 bucks and publication !
Round 3: Retelling of a fairytale/myth/nursery rhyme I have immunity for this round, so I wrote this in literally 5 minutes. Not bad though !
Jack and Jill went up the hill, and there they met their match, in the form of three large boys who began to kick and scratch.
The two young children ran towards home, A fate that never came, as Jack was tripped and so was Jill and the two were never the same
Those boys had hurled out insults and among those were the threats: “Never tell of our doings here, Or you’ll wish we’d never met!”
The two at last came home and were asked what caused their pain Jack lied about his clumsy fall and that secret would remain
So as the story of the well was spread No one would know of the deed: Of the bullies who hurt the two young kids, Thus the rhyme will always mislead.
Not my best, but it doesnt matter! Passed round 3, obviouslyy.
Round 4: Take the view of an unanimate object ! We wrote down random objects then picked out of a hat. I picked "stove"
The Stove
I hold your lifeline in a ring of blue flame, But I’m destined only to smell and see. Never shall I taste the mythical food: it’s longing at its best, woe is me.
No one ever understands how hard it is, For the food is placed inches from my face. My fiery fingers fondly brush the pot, longing to hold food in my embrace
The soup so salty, and sauce so thick, so close, and yet so far. No one sees how it’s tantalizing me, and how blessed those with tongues really are
You turn up the fire even further, the desire burning hot in my chest, But no, before the food bubbles over, you have taken my only request.
It seems so unfair you get to enjoy, something so trivial to thee, but for a poor stove that is constantly teased: it’s longing at its best, woe is me.
I ACTUALLY WON THIS ROUND!!! And you know what that means?!?! I'm automattically in the final !! WOOT WOOT. Cause no matter how I do next round, I can't be voted out. So I'll have to make it to the final ! Sooo excited. Plus I'm the only one in my class to have won 2/4 rounds !!! I mean, theres like 16 kids, so thats pretty good ! Now onward to...
Round 5: Shakespearan sonnet. Use his sonnet's rhymescheme to write this poem.
Curiously Paranoid
Hushed whispers seem always to echo, Never quite reaching my ears. What they are saying I’ll never know, But I envision my worst fears. Mouths moving too quickly for me to read, A scrawled note causing giggles and stares A snippet of information is all I need, As my curiosity’s too great to bear. Waiting patiently for them to turn away To do a quick hunt through their pack. Every rule and moral I will disobey To gain my confidence back. I locate the notes, and what will I finally expose? Nothing that is remarkable, but finally, now I know.
